Spring has Sprung in Lake Dalrymple!

The countdown to summer has officially started! Okay well that may be a bit premature, but spring has officially arrived, the snow has finally disappeared and the ice on the lake is growing thinner by the hour.

Last year a neighbour of ours on Lake Dalrymple Road marked the last sighting of ice on the lower lake to have officially melted at 3.27pm on April 27th 2008. With almost a month still to go in 2009 I can't help but think these wonderful spring temperatures will help to beat last year’s date.

This summer is proving to be packed full of events in the community and I would like to hear from all of you about anything you are hosting, or looking forward to attending in the region.

A good friend of ours has been spending the winter building a new website to help promote the 3rd annual Carden Nature Festival which will operate out of the Carden Recreation Center (Lake Dalrymple Road) from June 5th to the 7th 2009. Events include Float Plane Rides, Grassland Bird Tour, Paddling around Lake Dalrymple, Cameron Ranch Tour, Festival Bike Tour, Dufferin Quarry Tour, Nature Photography Techniques, Night Sky Watching and much much more. visit www.cardenguide.com for more information.

Have any of you been to the quaint little country shop north east of Lake Dalrymple? It's called Quaker Oats Farm and is operated by a friendly husband and wife team along with their children. I have to tell you that a weekend cottage trip isn't complete unless our family stop there and visit their deli counter where you can find delicious garlic stuffed olives, feta cheese stuffed hot peppers, made to order baguette sandwiches, best butter-tarts north of the equator and hundreds of really cool souvenirs, toys and miscellaneous items that will excite even those who are hard to find gifts for. Quaker Oats is just a 10 minute ride by car from Lake Dalrymple Resorts. Travel north on Lake Dalrymple Road until you reach the end (hwy #503 also known as #45). Turn Right (east) on #503 and drive for 3 to 5 minutes looking for a small red wooden cabin with a tin roof on your left (north side). The property doubles as an animal sanctuary and is a great spot to bring the kids for a taste of the rural countryside. One word of advice...if you are looking to purchase one of their baked-fresh-daily treats like fruit tarts, butter tarts or pies, you best call in advance (705-833-2370) and reserve them in the morning as they go really really fast.
